Thailand's Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) was established in 1992, and there are Trademark Office, Copyright Office, Patent Office, etc. under this department.

There are two ways to apply for trademarks in Thailand: 1. Single country application; 2. Designation of Thailand as one of the application countries through the Madrid trademark.

The trademark application time in Thailand is about 18-24 months. If a rejection occurs and the applicant needs to reply. Therefore, the application time will be extended. The electronic application receipt will be obtained about 1 month after the application is submitted.  >> Apply now

Thailand trademark application process
STEP 1. Application

After submitting the required documents, the Trademark Office will issue an application receipt.

STEP 2. Formal Examination
For submitted documents and whether to pay the fee for review.

STEP 3. Substantive Examination
The substantive review takes about 1 year. If there is an amendment to the product, a reply must be made within 60 days of the official release of the review opinion. If the reply is not answered, the application will be rejected.

STEP 4. Announcement and Registration
The announcement period is 60 days. During this time, anyone can file opposition procedures against the trademark within the time limit.
One month before the end of the announcement period, the official will issue an approval notice and issue the certificate 2 months after the payment of the fee.


Notices:
1. The trademark official fee in Thailand is calculated based on the number of applied commodities, and additional charges are required for more than 5 commodity items.
2. A trademark registration is valid for 10 years from the date of application and could be renewed for 10 years before the expiry date. The renewed date starts 3 months before the expiration, and the grace period is within 6 months after the expiration. There is no need to provide proof of use for extension.
3. After registration, the trademark will not be used for three consecutive years without justifiable reasons. Anyone could file a trademark cancellation procedure.
