The Chile trademark authority is Instituto Nacional de Propiedad industrial(INAP).

The trademark application channel in Chile is a single country application. The Chilean trademark law adopts the "first-to-file" basis. Prior trademark applicants are eligible to obtain trademark registration.

The Chile trademark application takes about 12 months. If there are other procedures such as opposition, the applicant needs to reply. Therefore, the application time is extended. Chile trademark application process

STEP 1. Application
After submitting the required documents and fees, obtain an application receipt within about 2 weeks

STEP 2. Announcement and Examination
The examiner conducts a formal examination of the submitted application documents. If there are any missing or non-compliant legal documents, the official will issue a correction notice. The applicant must reply within 30 days, otherwise it will be considered invalid.
After passing the formal examination, INAPI will make an announcement in the "Trademark Gazette", and anyone can file an objection within 30 days after publication. If there are unregistrable reasons, a substantive examination of the applied trademark will be conducted to see if there is any reason why it cannot be registered.

STEP 3. Registration
After examination, if there is no unregistrable reasons and objection procedure, the official will grant the trademark registration and issue the registration certificate.

Notices:
1. The Chile certificate is an electronic certificate.
2. A trademark registration is valid for 10 years from the date of registration and could be renewed for 10 years before the expiry date. The renewed date starts from the expiration and is graced to within 30 days after the expiration.
3. If the trademark is not used within 5 years from the date of registration, the interested party may propose a trademark cancellation procedure.
